The Duchess of Edinburgh burst into tears during her second trip abroad in two weeks. Sophie, 59, met with refugees on the border of war-torn Sudan and broke down after hearing the horrific stories of sexual violence.

Sophie has visited Adre, on the border of the two countries, where hundreds of refugees are crossing daily to flee conflict.

Tears streaming down her face, the Duchess of Edinburgh emerged from the makeshift clinic into the oven-like central African heat and stood on her own by the side of the tent for a few moments in order to compose herself.

The Duchess of Edinburgh was visibly moved to tears during her recent visit to Chad, where she met with refugees who had fled the brutal civil war in Sudan. During her time there, the Duchess listened to their heartbreaking accounts of sexual violence and the harrowing experiences they endured.
