PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Former Rhode Island Gov. Edward DiPrete, who served as the state's chief executive for six years and was later jailed for corruption, has died. He was 91. Robert Murray, DiPrete’s former chief of staff, co nfirmed that the Republican died Tuesday after celebrating his 91st birthday with family.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Local leaders are mourning the death of former Gov. Edward DiPrete. DiPrete, who was 91 years old, served as Rhode Island’s governor from 1985 until 1991 and as mayor of Cranston for seven years before that.

(WJAR) — Funeral services have been announced for former Rhode Island Gov. Ed DiPrete. DiPrete died Tuesday on his 91st birthday. He served as governor of Rhode Island from 1985 to 1991. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Nardolillo Funeral Home on Park Avenue in Cranston.
